Niwot Ridge Subnivean Data Retrieval System
The purpose of this retrieval system is to facilitate public access to scientific data collected
at the subnivean site. We wish to make as much of this data accessible as possible, however we
have two constraints:
- We want to make sure the data meet quality control standards before we release it
to the public. This takes time, so more recent data may not yet be available.
- Certain data may have a proprietary status, and as such will not be available
to the public until work with those data is completed.
Data Retrieval Levels
Level 1 data are 10-minute data that have been converted, calibrated, and
filtered. Data conversions are performed to change mV instrument outputs to proper units.
Relative calibrations are performed on the aerodynamic profile data to ensure that each
instrument produces the same value when all the instruments are placed on one level. Data
filtering replaces data exceeding arbitrary constraints with missing value indicators.
Level 1 data also contains preliminary flux computations.
Level 2H data are the Level 1 data collapsed to hourly means. Air temperature,
relative humidity, and wind speed are provided for the 2.0 m height only. Means and SD's of
the preliminary fluxes are also available.
Level 2D data are the Level 1 data collapsed to daily means. Air temperature, relative
humidity, and wind speed are provided for the 2.0 m height only. Means and SD's of the
preliminary fluxes are also available.
Level 3 data are segments of the dataset that have undergone rigorous analysis by one
of the project scientists for publication purposes. The content, level of manipulation, etc.
of Level 3 data varies considerably according to the objectives of a particular analysis.
Therefore, these data segments are provided as finished "packages", and you get whatever they
contain. The Level 3 data typically come with a reference to relevant publications concerning
the interpretation of the data.
- Level 1
: (calibrated, filtered 10-min. data with preliminary flux computations.)
- Level 2H:
(Hourly Mean and Standard Deviation of Level 1 data and fluxes)
- Level 2D:
(Daily Mean and Standard Deviation of Level 1 data and fluxes)
- Level 3:
(Misc. segments of the dataset that have undergone rigorous analysis)
